3 Inches of Blood Release Tracklisting For "Here Waits Thy Doom"
Tue, 30 Jun 2009 14:27:00 +0100Canadian metal band 3 Inches of Blood has completed their new album, Here Waits Thy Doom. I loved Fire Up The Blades, the album had so much energy and the band definitely doesn't take themselves too seriously which is a good thing based on the kind of music they are playing. It's ridiculous, over the top, and fun. I can't wait for more.Track Listing:1. Battles and Brotherhood2. Rock In Hell3.... (Read complete news)

Tom Waits – Rain Dogs (1985)
Rare endangered sparkling mouse-horse hybrid with flaming lips snapped by David Lynch, but may ...
Tue, 16 Jun 2009 21:46:00 +0100Uber-wierd film director David Lynch has released a film in which an uber-wierd film director manages to get two very different musicians together to record an album with lots of other cool collaborators, but then a row with their record company meant it was buried, and eventually likely to be released with a blank CD in a case containing a booklet with lots of the director's photos; so the album didn't exist, but then you could listen to it on the web. Throw in a few dwarfs, dream sequences and surreal visual interludes, and actresses playing multiple roles interchangably and you would have a typical Lynch film, except that this isn't a film, it's for real. The artists are Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse (of Gnarls Barkley and the 'Grey Album' which blended the Beatles with hip-hop) and the album was called 'Dark night of the soul' (another name almost ridiculoulsy primted to make me interested), and featured tracks with the Flaming Lips, Frank Black, Vic Chesnutt, Suzanne Vega and many more. It can be heard in its entirety, or track by track, here, although I am not sure if this will remain active indefinetely. The album is very good, although it is somewhat disconcerting for me to have to listen to it only on my PC, unable to wrench it free and embrace it fully in my iPod and earphones. The opener 'Revenge' with the Flaming Lips is my favourite so far, sounding very like what I imagine Pink Floyd might sound... (Read complete news)

NEW NOIZE MAKERS INTERVIEW // FRAZER KING: DRUNK AND (NOT SO) INCAPABLE
Thu, 11 Jun 2009 23:06:00 +0100I’ve often thought that inebriation is as much a state of mind as it is a physical affliction. Of course there is undeniable evidence that excess consumption of alcohol directly affects movement, speech, memory and common sense, but how often do you find yourself sobering up when another one of your drunken companions falls into trouble? Or what about those among us who can pretend to be sober even though we’re 8 pints gone? (Thus tricking your parents, who are giving you a lift home, that all you drank was coke all evening). It’s all about channeling the excess into something else, mind over matter and all that. Like David Blaine freezing himself in a block of ice for three days, he channeled all that excess cold into, um, not feeling cold. But anyway, I hope you understand my point - and none more so is all of this evident than in the music industry. There are some really, really drunk bands out there, but who also make really great music and perform unforgettable (for all the right reasons) live shows. They channel all that overindulgence into making something really amazing. Iggy Pop, off the top of my head, was probably really drunk when he performed with The Stooges that first time he decided to roll around in broken glass and stage dive. Amy Winehouse, although having as many bad drunk performances as she has good ones, is also someone who has channeled excess into genius. The Gallagher brothers have probably... (Read complete news)
Reruns—Fear Around the Corner
Thu, 28 May 2009 13:10:00 +0100This post first appeared March 20, 2007. Since then, we have replaced the noisy coffee maker with one even more ferocious, and Mike nearly collapses every time it grinds the beans. I have a new coffee maker--a Cuisinart Automatic Grind and Brew. At night, I fill the thing up with beans and water, set the timer, and magically the coffee appears at 6:40 the next morning, hot and fresh. An entire night's sleep has gone by since I set it up, which is enough time for me to forget what I have done, so it's as if I had a coffee... (Read complete news)
