One Man Army- Last Word Spoken [2000]
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 21:41:00 +0100So back on that request post I put up, I got a request for this album, and when I DLed it, it was in WMA format and I was totally unmotivated to reformat it, but I did finally get around to it a few days ago and here it is all uploaded. I like my punk rock fast, and this is pretty mid-tempo, so while it doesn't float my boat, it was a nice change of pace from what I've been listening to lately, even if it was a little slow for my taste. The vocalist does have a real nice throaty feel to his voice, which makes for great punk rock, and they are just a three piece so they pull it off really well especially for it being 2000 when this was released. I'm going to go bury myself back in that Broadway album now, though. Genre: Punk RockFor Fans Of: Rancid, Descendents, AFI (old)Contact: idk.Bit Rate: VBRTrack List:1. The Old Songs 2. The Killing Floor by Michael Wandmacher
Fri, 26 Jun 2009 13:33:00 +0100ALBUM DETAILS: Artist: Michael Wandmacher Title: The Killing Floor Format: CD Type: Limited Edition (Only 500 copies) Playing time: 53:20 Film Released: 2006 CD Release Date: 8th January 2008 Label: Movie Score Media Genre: Soundtrack: Thriller The Killing Floor is a straight suspense score. It is an effective score as it sets the mood perfectly with dark overtones and a frantic pace for the action. Michael Wandmacher uses percussion and strings with great effect. The score starts off slowly with the suspense, creating mood and tension. There is nice string work and even nicer quite moments, to relieve the dread. Towards the latter part of the score is when the action kicks in. It comes at us with energy and a fast pace. Though the action sounds generic, it is done with style, to take it above the standard action tracks. I was surprised I liked this early effort of Wandmacher's as My Bloody Valentine 3D was a disaster. The Killing Floor is not the best in the suspense genre, but is worth listening to - it is different and exciting. *** TRACK LISTING: 1. Main Titles (02:36) 2. Telescope (01:42) 3. Shades (01:12) 4. MLB Weekly: American League All-Star Picks
Tue, 23 Jun 2009 01:25:00 +0100Since the MLB All-Star Game is just a few weeks away it’s time for me to start naming my All-Star picks. I’m doing the AL this week and next week I’ll name my picks for the NL. Generally, I go with established players over the one-year wonders or breakout players. I think the stars should get the starting spots if they are performing well. I look at all the normal stats like HR, RBI, AVG, SB, OBP, but OPS+ is the one statistic I look at most, except in some unique cases. C: JOE MAUER, MINNESOTA TWINS STATS: .407 AVG/14 HR/42 RBI/.475 OBP/.727 SLG/1.202 OPS/221 OPS+ Mauer is a no brainer choice for starting catcher in the AL. In fact, he’s probably the MVP in the AL right now. He’s batting over .400 and is actually hitting for power this season as well. NEXT IN LINE: Jorge Posada (.280 AVG/9 HR/29 RBI/132 OPS+) and Mike Napoli (.290 AVG/9 HR/27 RBI/125 OPS+) are having solid seasons, but they have no business starting in the All-Star Game over Mauer. Other than these three, there isn’t much worth looking at for catcher in the AL. 1B: MARK TEIXEIRA, NEW YORK YANKEES STATS: .286 AVG/20 HR/56 RBI/.387 OBP/.599 SLG/.986 OPS/155 OPS+ This was the toughest position for me to pick from between Kevin Youkilis, Justin Morneau, Mark Teixeira, and Miguel Cabrera. I chose Teixeira because he has the most HR, the second most RBI, and is a solid defensive 1B. Also, Youkilis missed a little time with injury. NEXT IN LINE:... (Read complete news)
Another hot run today
Mon, 22 Jun 2009 19:55:00 +0100Monday Afternoon Run: 12 minutes 11 sec +2:03 . 1:45 p.m. 92° / 96° Heat Index sunny 1 Day Since My Last Run ●I had to go for another hot run today because I was wayyyyyyy too tired at dawn when the temperature was more appropriate and suitable for running. What I didn't do was waver. Nope, no wavering, I got right out there. I was actually kind of excited. The temperature today isn't as high as yesterday but still dang freakin' hot. It was not pleasant out there by any means. The sweat poured down even though my pace was slow. The sun blared down, completely heating me up whilst sucking the energy from me. Diligently I paid attention to every note of music that was playing in my ears. I gave half my attention to my body to make sure everything was working fine (something I generally always do but maybe not as much as today) and half my attention to the tunes to take my mind off the heat and the run. It was a constant battle to keep my pace and not stop and begin my walk back to my ice water. Twelve minutes in this heat is like a half hour when the temperature is nice and moderate. Maybe twelve minutes in this is even more work. I'm not sure if I'll get to my goal of making June better than May, but I'm gonna do what I can to get exercise in. 7 runs in June :: 2:22:31... Re-post...In the beginning......
Fri, 19 Jun 2009 11:30:00 +0100Zodiac Lung posted these on the Swamp already, but I re-posted them again just because they are so bad-ass... "The first release from the Black Metal band out of Louisiana, USA. This was released in 2000 and I think it really wasn't given the attention it deserves. With members from both the late Acid Bath and Soilent Green, these boys came to the scene after members of both bands were experimenting and decided to make this idea and reality. They came to the scene and I guess were ignored, but this doesn't mean that their album wasn't something interesting. The bad parts of this album are well, how could I say, the drums are slightly lower quality then the rest of the album. The drums do sound a little like they weren't thought out long, they are somewhat bland or hollow at points, but this does prove a point for their sound. They take their sound at a slow pace to a fast pace with each song, some songs are completely slow, the others are fast. But nothing blinding in speed. I don't think it is a bad thing, but each song, no matter the pace, is relatively short. The average is just over 3 minutes, if that. Though, the album has 15 songs on it, it just doesn't really justify their approach towards their sound. That also has a good point, they don't take long to get what they want done. They don't elaborate more then they need to get their musical... (Read complete news)
Goerne Eschenbach Winterreise
Thu, 18 Jun 2009 15:50:00 +0100When Matthias Goerne was about six, he heard Winterreise and was captivated. Obviously, he was too young to understand all the complex emotions in the piece but what he recognized was that they mattered. Winterreise is so powerful that even a child, albeit a talented one, could be inspired to commit it to memory. There have been hundreds of Winterreises at the Wigmore Hall over the years. This is an audience that knows the work bar by bar and isn't easily impressed, so when most of the house stood up in applause it was serious praise indeed. I first heard Goerne sing Winterreise some 15 years ago, near the start of his adult career (he was a child prodigy in East Germany). He was only 26, yet Irwin Gage was playing, and Alfred Brendel was listening in the stalls, rapt with attention. Goerne and Brendel became a legendary partnership, creating some of the finest Schubert performances ever produced. Their recording of Winterreise is one of the must-hear classics. Christoph Eschenbach is a superlative Schubert performer too, so this new series of Schubert cycles at the Wigmore Hall is a significant event. Goerne and Eschenbach have already recorded Die Schöne Mullerin as part of the new Harmonia Mundi Schubert Edition. Goerne's earlier recording of that cycle is exceptional. Quite frankly, you can't "know" DsM without having heard that, because it puts paid to the myth that the cycle is sweet and innocent. Darker undercurrents almost always flow through the Romantic (see other posts... (Read complete news)
