Featured Mixes: Lazer Sword-Sweatpants (new mash-up mix)
Mon, 29 Jun 2009 01:59:00 +0100Mash-up artists Lazer Sword just finished off a new mixtape that they have for download on Nalden.net. About two months ago I caught their show at Great Scott when Basstown brought them up and their approach to remixing on the fly and mashing up tracks was pretty neat. They use tons of MIDI control devices to literally extract vocals, drums, and other components of songs, mangle the crap out of them until something completely different is created, and reconstruct them. This is all while retaining the familiar hooks and samples from the original songs to give you a basis as to how drastically they re-interpreted the music. You can also catch some of their original works in Sweatpants as well. Get it here. Enjoy, I'm pretty sure I will too. ... (Read complete news)

Fri, 12 Jun 2009 01:33:00 +0100So Dope returns for another round of festivities at Rise next friday! Residents Jay K, Dominique Porter, Damien Paul, and Artie Viera will be playing all different kinds of house/electro/mash-ups. The Spys are a group of mash-up artists from (I think) LA; they throw all different types of stuff into the mix, always keeping the listener guessing what's coming next. Check out their site/myspace.... (Read complete news)
New LMFAO, Hervé, Little Boots & More
Sun, 07 Jun 2009 12:59:00 +0100photo:aremac Annie Mac's show the other day had some pretty good tracks on, which I'll be posting either tomorrow or Tuesday. Including a new Louis La Roche track, but more on that in my next post. The first track of this post is by LMFAO and features 'crunk' artist Lil Jon. I like LMFAO (especially 'La [...]... New K’naan, Santigold, Rusko, & A Mash-Up
Thu, 04 Jun 2009 00:24:00 +0100photo:bolotnikov Well I'd thought 'Day N Nite' and all the remixes/versions that went with it were long gone but apparently not. Favourite rapper of mine K'naan has done a version called 'Dayless Nite' and raps about pirates and other such matters. Nothing amazing but more about the lyrics than the song I feel. And it [...]... DJ Irk - Irked Vol.1: Rocking, Rolling, Riding
Fri, 29 May 2009 07:54:00 +0100Here's another DJ I stumbled upon (with a little help from Spinsane) and I'm glad I did! This mix is is very reminiscent of something DJ Yoda would do, so if you like him, you will like this mix. Here's a bio on the weird one: "DJ irk has always been a bit funny. Then one day late in 2003, he sprouted eyes, ears, fingers, feet and, crucially, a sense of proportion. He spent the first few dark winter months of this strange new existence holed up in the mountains designing and tailoring his costume. He snowboarded by day and parTAYed... (Read complete news)
Bootie Boston 1-year anniversary @ Goodlife- Party Ben!
Fri, 22 May 2009 13:57:00 +0100The Bootie Boston mash-up crew will be in full effect celebrating the first anniversary of their Goodlife monthly on May 22. Anyone who has been to a Bootie party knows these guys go all out- they turn the entire basement of Goodlife into a pirate ship with the decor. If you pay close attention to the songs being mashed up, you will know that their DJ's put a ton of thought into what tracks they superimpose against eachother to ensure maximum crowd reaction! For their anniversary party they're bringing in Party Ben from San Francisco. Definitely recommend checking out his... (Read complete news)
Free and Legal Music
Tue, 19 May 2009 05:05:00 +0100When you read about all the budding Internet sites you don't often hear the words "Free" and "Legal" in the same breath. You have sites like iTunes which are certainly legal - but not free. Likewise you have sites like Seeqpod, Napster and others that have tried to provide free music without the agreement of [...]... Hooligans
Wed, 13 May 2009 06:21:00 +0100After supplying us with an endless stream of remixes over the last couple months, Don Diablo finally gave himself the time for a big proper EP release full of big remixes, edits, and even a mash-up. The track, "Hooligans", is easily his best original yet with several huge basslines, and some wild rhymes from Example. While the original is great, it's hard to focus on that for too long with all these great mixes! One very cool one coming from Don Diablo himself, and then several others from artists such as A1 Bassline, and upcoming dubstep artist, Doorly. The A1... (Read complete news)
Shooting Stars
Wed, 06 May 2009 22:38:00 +0100I had no idea that the Bag Raiders' remix of Chromeo's "Call Me Up" was more of a mash-up than a remix. Literally a minute ago, I listened to "Shooting Stars" by the Bag Raiders and it's the exact same instrumentals as their remix of "Call Me Up", just with different lyrics. I'm very impressed with the "mash-up/remix" (or whatever you wanna call it) and the original. So here is the original and here is the link to my post with the remix of "Call Me Up". Both are very elating. Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars... (Read complete news)
Now that’s what I call a M*A*S*H*-Up!!!
Wed, 08 Apr 2009 22:13:00 +0100Yesterday morning I was in the mood to listen to a song that echo'd in my virginal childhood ears every weekday evening (thanks to the amazing at-the-time new technology that was "syndication" and our hometown station, Seattle's KSTW-11your home for Mariners baseball!) and naturally, where else would I turn to seek out this song, but [...]... Addictive TV - the next Level of the VJ
Thu, 12 Mar 2009 03:41:00 +0100Described so eloquently as 'next level shit' by Grandmaster Flash, when they supported the great man in San Francisco, Addictive TV are certainly that. Using DVD turntables and laptops, their live sets are a state of the art audiovisual phenomenon, driven by their fast paced audiovisual remixes and video mash-ups. Trail-blazers in the art of audio/video [...]... (Read complete news)
