ALBUM REVIEW: V/A 'Brand Neu!' out now on Feraltone Records
Thu, 18 Jun 2009 18:03:00 +0100It's really superb when you find out about bands you hadn't really heard of before, especially when it's through compilations that feature previously unreleased tracks and exclusives from current artists who respected and were influenced by them. So props to Pets With Pets for consenting to let Feraltone use the brilliant 'We Only Found This Place' and School Of Seven Bells for the exclusive 'Device Feur M'. The fun doesn't end there. Neu! influenced a lot of modern day super giants of rock like Primal Scream, Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Kasabian and Holy Fuck so the tracklisting is pretty tight on label Feraltone's debut release. 4/5 YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE: Berlin Battery Compilation Download Victor Maitland LISTEN: ... Sun, 14 Jun 2009 23:06:00 +0100Bask in the utter joy that is the new Kasabian record. West Ryder Pauper Asylum is fantastic start to finish. I'm so happy to be so excited about music - it's been awhile since I was over the moon about a record the way I am about this one and the Company of Thieves debut... Yes, that is Noel Fielding from the Boosh in the last video. Fabulous. P.s. good on you Tom Meighan for growing out your hair. Looking fit. x and o -Miss A ... (Read complete news)
New track reviews - 13/6/09
Sat, 13 Jun 2009 18:44:00 +0100A couple of announcements. Firstly, a little site redesign: over there to the right (no Nazi) -> is a constantly-updating snapshot of what I've been 'spinning' lately. I thought it might make the place a little prettier. Secondly, in order to perpetually force myself to 'have things to blog about', I'm going to start doing a 'weekly' (i.e., whenever I can be bothered to do it) column of reviewing new singles (or 'tracks', as one is supposed to call them these days). I'll even give them little ratings out of five with cute little ♪ symbols, where ♪ signifies meritless tripe and ♪♪♪♪♪ = amazing amazing amazing. So here's the first installment in a regular series. CASCADA - EVACUATE THE DANCEFLOOR 'Guess who's back with a brand new track?' some wag asks the listener some way through 'Evacuate The Dancefloor', and you'd be forgiven for not immediately answering 'Cascada'. After five years of churning out basically the same characterless euro-trance song over and over again, Cascada has defied all expectations, and - by some miraculous historical coincidence - managed to produce a song that sounds _exactly_ like Lady Gaga. And I mean _exactly_. 'Evacuate The Dancefloor' is perhaps the single most derivative thing I have ever heard; by the time some cut-price Colby O'Donis shows up (exhorting us to 'shake that thang') you can't help but laugh at the sheer, shameless opportunistic _gall_ of it. Weirdly, though, 'Evacuate The Dancefloor' is perhaps the most likable thing Cascada have ever done. The bandwagon-jumping is... (Read complete news)
Certifiably brilliant
Thu, 11 Jun 2009 00:01:00 +0100• YOU’D be mad as a hatter not to pick up a copy of Kasabian’s new album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. The newly-released LP, the Leicester-based band’s third album, contains their certifiably-brilliant current single Fire. • Like a bat out of Hell, Meat Loaf is back! The oversized rocker has remastered his 1984 collection of oversized rock songs Hits Out Of Hell, with two new additions, I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) and I’d Lie For you (And That’s The Truth). • Alternative metal masters Incubus have returned from a hiatus with two new tracks as part of a two-CD best of collection. Monuments And Melodies, which covers the group’s hits from the Make Yourself album up until the present day, is out now. • New Scottish indie rock band We Were Promised Jetpacks are looking to blast themselves into the charts. Their stunning debut album, These Four Walls, was released this week. • Irish pop sensations The Script continue their chart conquering antics with a fifth single, Before The Worst. And given their previous successes, take it as read The Script will score another hit with the big-sounding track. • Hidden gems from the musical past of African nation Benin have been unearthed for a new compilation album. The Legends Of Benin album, part of the Analog Africa series, features some of the funkiest groups to come out of the country in the 1970s. • Holy smoke! Brighton-based band Pope Joan are back. The quirky funky math rockers have a double A-side single, Centurions/Volumes, out this... (Read complete news)

Kasabian - The West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum (2009)
Sat, 30 May 2009 01:12:00 +0100Kasabian are a neo-psychedelic indie electro rock band formed in 1999 in Leicester England. Their music has been compared to the likes Primal Scream, Oasis, and the Stone Roses, and the band is credited as one of the major pioneers of the Indie rock revival of the mid to late 00', especially in the UK. Their first 2 albums were pretty revolutionary and amazing, but unfortunately The West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum is slightly less impressive. It's not a bad album, but it's a safe one, and it's missing a certain oomph and energy that is one of the most... (Read complete news)
Kasabian: 'We're not a lad rock band'
Fri, 29 May 2009 14:54:00 +0100Kasabian's Tom Meighan and Sergio Pizzorno have told NME.COM that they can't understand why people label the band as 'lad rock'. In an interview which you can read in full in this week's issue of NME, Pizzorno said that people are wrong to pigeonhole the band, despite their close association with frends and regular touring partners Oasis. When asked if Kasabian's new album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' is an attempt to shrug off the lad rock tag, Pizzorno replied: "We never were one." He added: "If you put our records on and press play, there's no pub rock in that, man. It's... (Read complete news)
