Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens - What Is This?
Fri, 03 Jul 2009 07:31:00 +0100Naomi has something deep in her soul she needs to share. “Whatever it is, I cannot hold back my peace! It makes me love my enemies. It makes me love my friends! It won’t let me be ashamed!” Scrumptious gospel truths couched in tasty blues power. “I just can’t hold my peace! Keep on praising God!” Naomi has the true depths of one that I know I’d spend a few hours with and come away blessed, glad to be alive and glad to know the truth of the Lord. The music feeds a hunger in this list of shoutout tunes you’ll be dancing on top of your pews singing along to - What Have You Done?, Trouble in My Way, By Your Side, and Lift My Burdens. A special shoutout for the powerful message of Am I Asking Too Much? In this song we are reminded of some simple truths that our nation has ignored for far too long. “When a child is hungry, he ought to be fed.” She chastises in a way that shames our “Christian” nation – “it don’t take a miracle to put food on the table”. She keeps the barbs coming. “They take my son and ship him off to Iraq. Am I asking too much to ask when he’s coming back?” Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens http://www.eartaste.com... A Return Of Sorts
Tue, 30 Jun 2009 04:51:00 +0100And so Javid returns to the fray of the whiteboydancefloor after a months-long absence. Where have I been? What have I been doing? Whats that smell? As much as I'd love to say I've been travelling the world picking up delicious bits of music from hither and tither and yon unfortunately all I can say is that the mix of Uni/Work/Other shit suffocated my brain to the point that any idle time was thought of in a guilty sense, time that could be better spent. Anyway exams are done and I've got all the time in the world now so prepare for more inane humour and self-obsessed egotism. But I wont overload you to begin with. Speaking of returns - the one and only Matisyahu is making his first return to our shores since 2006 where he amazed everyone present (including myself) at Splendour in the Grass and some other shows. The sight of a dude dressed in traditional Orthodox Jewish clothing, complete with beard, singing soulful but beautiful melodies about spiritualism and Isreal to some entrancing reggae beats is certainly one you dont see too often. He's coming out to support the release of his new album - 'Light' - due out at the end of August which sees him transcend a new spectrum branching into a bit of electronica, evidenced by the release of the upbeat 'Smash Lies'. Could this perhaps have stemmed from his recording with the Crystal Method on the new track 'Drown In The Now'? I dont know. Either way I enjoy both. You can find Matisyahu on these dates at these venues and I can personally testify that you will get your moneys worth: August 12th - Metro Theatre, Sydney August 13th - Prince Bandroom, Melbourne And one last thing - Its great to see that the second announcement for Splendour In The Grass consists of pretty much the same freaking bands and acts no one cares about that Australian festivals have been going with for years - although there are exceptions to this rule like Little Red - and on Little Red the release claims (and still does) that they are "bringing their mod-soul to Splendour for the very first time" now I'm not a scientist but Little Red have not only played there before - they did it LAST YEAR. In summary, I'm glad I didnt get a ticket. Well not glad, but I don't regret it. Anyway, peace.... (Read complete news)
OMGGGGGG UPDATE!!!!
Mon, 29 Jun 2009 03:54:00 +0100After returning home to Florida I have been more busy than I ever was during school. So what has happened in the 5 6 weeks I have left empty in my journal (It has taken me at least a week to even finish this). -BAMBOOZLE: Reuniting with all my friends that I love so much! Selling bunches of shirts! -GRADUATION: Stood around in heals for 2 hours, sat for 3 hours, tripped going up to the stage, died of hunger. -ENGAGEMENT: Shaking and crying. Glad I painted my nails the day before. -MOVING: 600 pounds of junk (literally, we put it on a pallet and they told me it weighed that much) from my studio apartment. 300 of that is dedicated to boots. -WORK: Spilling salsa in my shoes and banging up my knees. Ever since I returned to Tampa I have had 0 free time. Literally using my house only for sleeping. I dont remember much since I returned. Actually, I hardly remember today (twitter is my only way of remembering the past.) I'm going way back to May 1st. Bamboozle weekend. Jorge made himself look like a dirty Puerto Rican. That kid Kevin We had Asteria do an acoustic set in front of our tent My daily fuel provided by Wonka nerds ropes Just say no to womens jeans. Dear god. Ally Ramen, my long lost Fueled By Ramen intern You couldnt pay me to clean that stuff up Wonka gave Stereo Bear our very own Gold Card!!! It's basically a golden ticket into their candy cabinet. We can eat anything we want for the next 6 months!!!!! The second day rained. We had sad faces but were as optimistic as someone could be Of course I wouldn't miss Demi Lovato. Christina and I used her photo pass to get into the pit. Mercy Mercedes signing at our tent One of my favorite things about bamboozle is all the amazing people we meet. I wish we could bring them home with us. 3 years strong being gangsta Christina and that chick from The Sounds No Doubt from the pit. Except it was raining. Except I FORGOT TO EMPTY MY CARD!! I ran out of room and was left with just a few ok pics :( So beautiful in real life! Back to Boston for one last week I cant believe I had that much stuff Berklee had a concert the night before commencement Wild and intense. My dad still doesnt know how to use his camera that well. Last one on the end. I had been standing in heals since 6am, it was now 10. No one would talk to me or enjoy my jokes. Graduation ceremony, not as exciting as it should have been. Glad the iphone was invented However, I got to shake Smokey Robinson, Linda Ronstadt, Juan Luis Guerra, and George massenburg's hands as I walked across the stage!!!!!!!!!! I'm way too tiny for life. Got a degree and a man! Mom and Dad Done crossing this street FOREVER! My mom turns red when she drinks wine. I also dont drink so that glass of wine I have, half of it... (Read complete news)
Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen by Steve Jablonsky
Wed, 17 Jun 2009 11:19:00 +0100ALBUM DETAILS: Artist: Steve Jablonsky Title: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen Format: CD Type: Regular Release Playing time: 43:53 Film Released: 2009 CD Release Date: 23rd June 2009 Label: Reprise / Warner Bros. Genre: Soundtrack: Action Surprise, surprise! After panning Steve Jablonsky on the last couple of reviews, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is not bad at all. Prime opens the album, sounding a little like Hans Zimmer's King Arthur. Here, a brand new theme is introduced and it sounds mythical. The score this time around is a little darker and moodier. The score has a lot of bass and percussion, but this time it aids the score quite nicely by giving it an urban feel. There is not a lot of action tracks. What there is comes across well. I was afraid that it would be the heavy synth-bass-percussion rock type music that Jablonsky favors. Glad to say it is not and it is quite thrilling. Most of the score is darker as mentioned, reflecting the revenge theme. A nice change of pace for Jablonsky, to create something with depth. Sprinkled through the score is the theme introduced in Prime. Now, before I go too far on the praise, let me also say that there are problems with the score. The heavy synth-bass rock music that I spoke of before is present in some of the tracks and takes away from the listening experience. NEST is a total waste, loud and metallic, containing elements of a song by Linkin Park. At least they did not sing. Jablonsky does not use a... (Read complete news)
PROFILE: Enon
Tue, 16 Jun 2009 15:15:00 +0100...hey there, it's been a while. We've been keeping an eye on things from a distance and enjoying one of the best seasons we've seen in a while. We also still take time occasionally to do some work on this blog. We recently had the pleasure of talking with John Schmersal from Enon, who will be rolling into Dayton this weekend to perform at Gilly's. Here's what he had to say... The Buddha Den: It's been a while since Enon has palyed in Dayton [Dayton Music Fest 2007, to be exact]. What is the impetus for getting the band out on the road at this point? What has been keeping you and the band busy in the interim? John Schmersal: Well, we have been working on a new set up with our new drummer and some new tunes and wanted to give it some air. We've never really needed a reason or an excuse to go on tour. For me, it is easy as I am from Ohio, to come back to the Midwest. It's as much of a family/friends visiting affair as it is a musical one. What's kept us busy. Well we released Grass Geysers and toured and toured and toured. That ended around last July. We went to europe like 3 times and again for festivals in the summer. Since then we've just been regrouping and working on new stuff. We are playing with a new drummer Thomas, from here in Philly, he used to play drums for... (Read complete news)
