Reportage Live: METRO STATION + LOST + AIRWAY
Chi [...]... (Read complete news)
Naledge - "Focus"
Tue, 30 Jun 2009 20:28:00 +0100Here's a new video for the song "Focus" off of Naledge's Chicago Picasso mixtape, which dropped today. It's a fairly dope tape, so be smart and go pick it up wherever you can cop good Hip-Hop music. In fact, I actually think it's better formed than Kidz in the Hall's last record, but that's just my opinion.Naledge - "Focus"addthis_pub = 'WallySean';... (Read complete news)
With Prioritization and Focus You Will Get More Accomplished
Mon, 29 Jun 2009 17:08:00 +0100The music business, as with most businesses, is changing rapidly. How does one keep up with all of the changes? How do you take in, analyze and apply all of the latest and greatest ways of doing business, make money and remain true to your art? In this article I'm going to touch on two things which are extremely important and very basic: prioritization and focus. To prioritize means to arrange or schedule in order of importance, and, focus means to bring into focus or to concentrate.... (Read complete news)
RIP - Michael Jackson
Mon, 29 Jun 2009 13:36:00 +0100I must say that I, as many I'm sure, was surprised when I heard the news that Michael Jackson had been rushed to a hospital for cardiac arrest.... I was working... actually, I believe I was taking a lunch break when the news broke on CNN. As time went on they got more updates.... to where he was in a coma... and then that he had passed away. Wow. He was in fact trying to make a bit of a come back to sold out shows this summer. Very hard to believe that he had passed quite suddenly. But, as a couple of days passed, I started thinking a little more about him.... as I had before. About how he grew up, what he had possibly gone through being an international star... what people had accused him of.... and the constant bashing of him in certain media outlets for quite some time. The fact of his passing became less surprising... really. I don't know (or didn't) know the guy. But I do know that being through what he had been through would have been rough. I try to let the kids be kids. Really. I love seeing my daughter learn and discover.... and play. She's 5 years old. She has talents.... I know that... she even has musical and dancing talents. But I would never imagine of getting her to work at performing. No way. She's got to be a child while she is in fact a child. I can't imagine attempting to force her to be at a stage where she is not. Mr Jackson had quirks.... for sure. In fact, I'm sure we've all had things in our closet (to varying degrees)... and many still do. But I can't imagine the kind of pressures that were put on this guy... from childhood... and though he was loved and adored by many... seemed totally reclusive and lonely. One interview I saw of him... he talks about being about 10 years old and being in the recording studio for hours... and at times watching kids playing in a park across the street and crying because he would have loved so much to be a part of that. How far would you be willing to push your child for your own wants/needs/desires?? Mr Jackson obviously wanted to be a child while he was a child. He needed to be a child while he was a child. Kids need to be loved. And they need to be kids. Mr Jackson had great musical talent... a gift everyone saw early on.... but the focus many had on that gift for their own gain robbed him of his childhood..... and in part having a whole life. The focus was on developping the gift and delivering the gift instead of developping the person... the child in this case. That is my opinion. YOUR KIDS NEED LOVE. AND THEY NEED TO BE KIDS.... DJ Skully Presents Klashnekoff - Focus Mode (2005)
Fri, 19 Jun 2009 10:37:00 +0100Here's a collaboration between Klashnekoff and DJ Skully, even if you don't like Klashnekoff you can appreciate Skully's skills in the mix. Here's the write up on it: "DJ Skully is the DJ's DJ. A permanent fixture on the club and festival circuit, a pioneer whose main concern is challenging the model and pushing the boundaries, striving for legendary status. Klashnekoff was last years underground success story, talk of the town he ticked all the boxes. Hot single, hot video on constant rotation and radio airwave domination, all of which resulted in the sale of over 15,000 CDs independently. The buzz was loud, loud enough for the labels to hear and the meetings were had and the offers were made. Since then a few pretenders to the underground Kings thrown have been seen warming the seat. The buzz is now a result of the fans and industries questions, is he signed, where's the album, was he really that good. These questions have been answered. See Focus Mode. The mix tape before the album was an underground artist s way of plugging a gap, using available resources and promoting forthcoming material. It's now a major label, credibility building marketing tool. However every so often something comes along that makes you forget what went before, something that everything that proceeds it is compared too. Focus Mode is that something. Its what happens when old friends reconnect, its what happens when two of the best have a creative meeting of the minds. This is more... (Read complete news)
Aldeburgh : new buildings, new Birtwistle operas
Wed, 17 Jun 2009 16:06:00 +0100Why did Britten and Pears chose Aldeburgh ? Britten grew up on this coast and its spirit infuses his music. There are few cosy harbours here and the North Sea wind blasts across the plain. Like the landscape, Britten isn't cuddly, but a product of tougher climes. He wanted Aldeburgh because it wasn't London, but remote enough that musicians could get away from the distractions of the city, and focus on the purity of their art. The new building at Snape extend the Maltings, so it is more than ever a self-contained community, dedicated to excellence. The new studios are built where the old brewery once stood, again an appropriate metaphor for Britten's music : new work, with ancient foundations. So it was good that Sir Harrison Birtwistle's two new operas should open the 2009 Aldeburgh Festival, linking past and present. Britten was passionate about early English music, where formal simplicity belies depth of feeling. So Harrison Birtwistle's Semper Dowland, semper dolens taps into ancient tradition. Dowland's Seven Teares figured in seven passionate Pavanes is, to Birtwistle, "uniquer in the history of music". The basic unit is a song Lacrimae, which is set in seven versions, with the same chord sequence, each only a slight variation on the former, so the whole flows endlessly like the tears in the text. "It's like making music into a three dimensional object", says Birtwistle, "like seeing something in different facets". In a musical puzzle piece like this, simplicity is of the essence. Dowland played the lute... (Read complete news)
