drone pioneer speaks....
Sun, 21 Jun 2009 13:10:00 +0100pretty interesting documentary about dylan carson. decent quality too despite the small file size. originally packaged as a bonus with Hibernaculum. "...a DVD documenting Earth’s most recent European tour. The sweet low-fi short _Within the Drone_ was directed by Seldon Hunt and gives intimate insights into the world Carlson and the drone community. Hunt says, "Dylan Carlson is a true underground American icon, whose grim survival through the dark years of the '90s is nothing short of remarkable. It is truly beautiful to see his re-birth, and the newfound appreciation for his original and sumptuously sparse take on traditional American music." earth - within the drone ... (Read complete news)
droning death / bones in the sand...
Thu, 18 Jun 2009 23:53:00 +0100solo project of one ryan mcgill. dark, misanthropic drone. all three are some of my favourite drones of recent years. this shit is evil. "Bones of Seabirds - sacrament (CDR) - small doses $8.00 "Considering that this is the first release from Ryan McGill's Bones of Seabirds, the level of craft and maturity is astounding. Rich and densly textured, improvised drones unfold over 8 tracks in 49 minutes. For fans of older Sunn0))) material and Birchville Cat Motel. Edition of 138 numbered copies in a folded cardstock cover with hand cut vellum overlay and insert." -carbon records bones of seabirds - sacrament buy from carbon records "it seems that ryan mcgill is complete unable to cover the same ground twice. this is the fourth (i believe) bones seabirds release, and it sounds nothing like any of the others. this one foregoes the guitars (for the most part) and relies on ryan's handmade voice of saturn synth.the first nearly 35 minute track is intense and brutal - like being strapped into some sort of machine that's boring deeper and deeper into the earth only to slowly burn you alive. the second gives a bit of respite, but leaves you lost in a dark cave drone. it's not to be missed. packaged in a folded artwork by matt yacoub, with an obi and an insert. edition of 129 copies." -carbon records bones of seabirds - subterranean lightsource buy from carbon records Bones of Seabirds is hear again, this time offering us his darkest and hardest piece of work yet.... In need of some good drone?......
Mon, 15 Jun 2009 23:24:00 +0100Another big thanx to our friend data.hypercomplex for turning me on to this band, too.. I found listening to this album to be really cool last night while watching the rain and lightning outside our patio door.... Chord are a quartet of musicians that hung around the Chicago area/scene. Trevor de Brauw of the doom /postrock band Pelican is one of them. "Chord is a minimalist drone collective that relies on few structural components. They are not concerned with, nor do they attempt to play, songs. Their goal is the achieving of "chord" -- the melding of separate sustained notes into a single unified aural entity. And while the "chords" themselves are relatively simple in construct (even when attempting challenging chords), the complexity of Chord in action lies within the enormity of the texture it produces. To be in the presence of chord achieved is transcendent." (from their MySpace). Check em' out here: Chord. Feel the love: ... (Read complete news)

Mon, 15 Jun 2009 02:40:00 +0100"Well, this is probably my favorite demo that Ive received this year. Hyponic are a Chinese doomy death metal band who sound like theyre stuck in the early 90s but instead of being a hindrance, this propensity for harvesting the sound of that era gives them a unique edge in todays scene theres just not many bands playing in this style right now. Hyponic owe more than a little of their sound to Incantation, but they offer enough of their own elements to avoid the ripoff band tag. For starters, there are no blast beats in Hyponic, its mostly midpaced, with some extremely doomy parts. Besides, there is stuff here thats better than anything Incantation has done lately. The riffs are just great, very well-written and seething with that difficult to pin down evil vibe. Significantly contributing to said vibe are the high-pitched drone guitars that are draped like a funeral garb over some of the music. The first time they appear is in the 2nd track A False Legend, which starts slow before building to a more manic pace, at which time the guitars switch from the ambient drone to a creepy dissonant tremolo picked harmony part. Hyponic have actually been around since 96, so its not surprising that they sound much more developed than a lot of demo bands. I can find no faults with Hyponic, so unless you dislike the doomy death metal sound of the early 90s, do yourself a favor and pick this up." [Aaron J. Klamer, ezboard.com] Hyponic... Red Planet by Graeme Revell
Thu, 11 Jun 2009 11:09:00 +0100ALBUM DETAILS: Artist: Graeme Revell Title: Red Planet Format: CD Type: Promo Playing time: 35.51 Film Released: 2000 CD Release Date: 2000 Label: Unknown Genre: Soundtrack: Science Fiction Unlike the regular score/song release, this promo features only Graeme Revell's score for Red Planet. The album begins with The Red Planet, using orchestra, electronics and choir. It is magnificent in its visualization of Mars. The next two tracks are pensive and quiet. The action begins in Drone Dispatched, a driving action track using the full force of the choir. The orchestra and the electronics go head-to-head, and is awesome. The rest of the score is mixed up between the quiet, suspenseful and action tracks. Between orchestra and electronics. I sometimes find the electronics in scores can be overwhelming. In Red Planet, Revell keeps them in check. He plays them in tandem with the orchestra, and they compliment each other nicely. I must mention Alone, the only orchestral track of the album. Quiet, restrained and emotional, it is a highlight of the score. After track 4, the choir is absent. But returns briefly to open Returning and to end the album in Finale. Finale starts off quietly, then the choir comes in with an awesome voice, orchestra on high, and the album closes down. Red Planet is a good score from Revell. And I hope some label out there does justice to it by releasing a commercial score only CD for us score lovers. Score: 3.5 out of 5 TRACK LISTING: 1. The Red Planet (3:19) 2. Mars 1 Day 93 (2:18) 3. Preparing (1:53) 4. Drone Dispatched (6:43) 5.... (Read complete news)

Lady Gaga - Paparazzi
Thu, 04 Jun 2009 01:54:00 +0100Paparazzi is Lady Gaga's third single released in United Kingdom and Ireland. This is hands down, one of the most memorable song in her album, Fame. The music video is an almost eight-minute mini movie, and I'm honestly stunned the whole time. Lady Gaga attempts to be different and preaches a message on fame-whoring. Besides that, [...]...
