6MNTHRVW 2009: REMIXES
Wed, 01 Jul 2009 13:25:00 +0100REMIXES So, remixes are amazing. All agreed? We don't embrace them enough here, and we really should. There's been some awesome ones this year so far, here are 10 of the best: - Micachu - Lips (Clark Kunt's Heavy Mental Mix) The craziest remix for a while - Micachu's scathing attack, backed by an attack of metal guitars. - La Roux - In For The Kill (Skreams Let's Get Ravey Mix) The most played of the lot, Skream's killer remix of La Roux's breakthrough hit, good stuff. - Empire Of The Sun - We Are The People (Button Masher Remix) So many good mixes of this song but this sprawling 7 and a half minute one beats the rest. - We Have Band - Oh! (Plugs Remix) One of the singles of the year remixed by one of the best new electronic acts of the year, perfect. - Rogues - Not So Pretty (Not So Pretty (Example & Wire Remix) This could be the only good song, but it's really good and the rap transforms it into a monster. - Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (Air France Remix) From one of the best albums of '08 comes a flawless remix for the single. Euphoric as usual. - The Virgins - Teen Lovers (The Shoes Remix) Featuring that stupid girl who appears in A Cross The Universe. But it's electro-pop genius. - Bloc Party - Signs (Armand Van Helden Remix) Bloc Party have always had great remixes, and Intimacy Remixed did not disappoint. - Yuksek - Little Dirty Trip (Vicarious Bliss Remix) A remix so good that Yuksek put it on the end of his album. Both acts are great and so is this. Sufjan Stevens - You Are The Blood ('Blood, Part 2' Buck 65 Remix) Not so much a remix as a reworking. Maybe the best thing off 'Dark Was The Night' It's been a good 6 months. We'll do this again in December if you're free. Happy day xxxcc MP3: Micachu - Lips (Clark Kunt's Heavy Mental Mix) (ysi) ... Book Review - Cursed by Carol Higgins Clark
Wed, 17 Jun 2009 04:34:00 +0100Cursed My mom loves mystery books, and she's gotten me into some of her favorite authors. Here, we had a new Carol Higgins Clark book lying around and I thought I'd pick it up and have a nice read. I had read her Christmas novel with Mary Higgins Clark, so I wanted to give her solo stuff a go. Abigail feels she's cursed - born on a Friday the 13th, she's had a string of bad luck from her birth, and now she's gone and lent $100,000 dollars to her boyfriend who ran off with it to make a movie. She calls up her friend Regan Reilly, Clark's recurring privite investigator, to find the scumbag who took it before Abigail's grandmother shows up to use the money to buy her granddaughter a new house in California. Reilly's got to track down the guy, plus maneuver around a recent murder in the area who Abigail had been an aquaintance of. The storyline sounds complex written out in summary like that, but it's really not. In fact, the book's plot seems a little thin as a mystery novel because Reilly is not on a giant, earth-shattering case. She's only trying to find some missing money, forcing Clark to bring in extra characters to lengthen the drama unfolding. The side story about a death in California really shouldn't be too big of a deal; it's only there to halt the progress of Reilly and Abigail in finding the money and to create some much-needed action to... 2009 NBA Draft: Celtics To Trade Ray Allen & Draft Tyreke Evans?, Brandon Jennings, ...
Tue, 16 Jun 2009 04:15:00 +0100I haven't been keeping up with the NBA Draft as much as last year, because they got rid of the Orlando Pre-Draft tournament and most of the news has been related to workouts and physicals, but I put together some news related to the draft on a player and team basis in this post. BOSTON CELTICS: _Of all the teams that have been active in trade discussions the past few weeks, the appearance of the Celtics has been the most surprising and the most interesting. While the Celtics have shot down a rumor that they were talking to the Suns about an Amare Stoudemire for Rajon Rondo swap … we keep hearing their name more and more in conjunction with a top-to-mid first-round draft pick -- a sign that Danny Ainge must see someone he likes up high. While various sources have different players pegged, there seems to be some consensus that one player in particular -- Memphis' Tyreke Evans -- is an Ainge favorite. If the Celtics are going to get Evans, they'll have to get somewhere in the top 10, most likely the top five. The Grizzlies, Thunder and Wizards all have picks in the top five and have been open to swapping their picks. While it's doubtful that Rondo is their bait, Ray Allen and his expiring contract could be. (ESPN) _ ANTONE SAYS: No way the Celtics trade Rajon Rondo, but Ray Allen? Maybe, but I can't see them winning next season with Tyreke Evans instead of... (Read complete news)

JACKIE WILSON: LONELY TEAR DROPS
Sat, 30 May 2009 19:23:00 +0100One of my absolute favorite singers of all time (I know I say that about everybody) Was the amazing Jackie Wilson. I have to great fortuen to have seen him play the supper club at the Hyatt Regent Hotel in Dearborn MI in the late 1970's. Man oh man what a performer! He smoked onstage which was kind of different, but didn't seem to inhibit him at the time. But the smoking and drinking may have lead to his untimely death at such a young age. Of course being shot by angry girlfriend may have contributed to his death as well. Wow... (Read complete news)
