Unrealesed unheard SKREAM tune!!
Fri, 03 Jul 2009 10:33:00 +0100Here's a little treat that you dont ge everyday, well at least from a producer like Skream, who has been spending most of his time Djing and spreading the Dubstep love around the world. This is a very melodic little number and as he says "I dont think ive actually ever played this one.....If i remember correctly i made it the same day i made 'one for the heads who remember'..... Not my greatest tune, but then again not my worst........" - SKREAM I'm feelin it anyway... Skream - 8:B Low Then got another exclusive from L.A. Boxers, who I dont know much about, but they've done pretty well putting this together. A remix of Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (L.A. Boxers Dub Remix) Also, got a new Chase and Status remix, which I'm still very undecided about, it's got a few ingredients to be a gooden, like the tight production on the bassy parts, but perhaps to much of the distortion on the lyrics has been left behind... is this their new labels influence showing through? White Lies - Death (Chase & Status) Then we've got a really tasty mix fo you all, in the form of iamxl's new mix, which has got an absolute fiend of a tracklist, with mashups of Santigold, N.A.S.A, K-Os, KRS-One, and loads of others. Definitely grab this for the weekend! Rah... Read more after the bumb! iamxl - D.A.N.C.E. Happens... (Read complete news)
DJ Hype - Drum & Bass Arena - Presents DJ Hype (2007)
Fri, 03 Jul 2009 09:31:00 +0100This is where I thought DnB started to sound "cheesy" and sound like Clownstep and sadly DJ Hype was one of the main driving forces behind it. Now days to me, there are very few DnB tracks that sound any good or a cut above the rest, the scene in my eyes has opened up on itself, what with the dub culture mentality and all the millions of sub genres and categories(let's face it, it's DnB!) they have given it. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy DnB but if you play it for more than an hour at a club, I have to walk out the room and listen to something else, it just doesn't have the same appeal to me as it used to, perhaps that's the old man coming out in me and I'm sure I will get barraged with many a person who disagrees but that's just how I feel. Retrospective Album Review: Janelle Monáe – Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase (2008)
Fri, 03 Jul 2009 02:26:00 +0100_As the padawan of Outkast_’s _Big Boi_, with an attitude and quirky style much like _Andre 3000_, _JANELLE MONáE_ is set to rock the world of pop and hip-hop (much like her mentors) with her completely original brand of hip hop/space/soul. _Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase_ is the first of 4 instalments from _Monáe_. The opening track titled “The March Of The Wolfmasters” is a monologue by _Monáe_, acting as an announcer in a futuristic city. She announces that an android called Cindy Mayweather has fallen in love with a human named Anthony Greendown, and instructs the bounty hunters of the city to hunt her down for forced disassembly in exchange for a reward. From this point, '_Metropolis I'_ becomes a concept album, detailing Cindy’s escape from the city and her attempt to survive for love. The next track “Violet Stars Happy Hunting!!!” details the initial escape, and has a very cool driving hip hop beat that gives you a real sense of the chase. It is matched by _Monáe_’s vocal layers that include (presumably) neighbours of Cindy whispering things at her trying to help her escape, and Monáe singing the sound of a siren into a melody. The next track “Many Moons”, which is a single that won _Monáe_ a Grammy last year, features 3 quite distinct sections that all intertwine and convey the same message of oppression. The first section sounds like a hip hop/60’s space pop track, which is followed by a spoken word section where _Monáe_ spurts out a range of oppressive slogan or words or situations, which is then rounded off by a final soft lullaby type section. This flows through to the next track without pause called “Cybertronic Purgatory”, which is a sad 1.5 minute song featuring a soft acoustic guitar and a vocoded “android” type vocal that wobbles and wails, presumable about the sadness that Cindy feels for being persecuted for simply falling in love. It really sounds like a sad robot. My only criticism is that this track does not go for any longer, as I find it beautiful and touching. Then in the last track “Sincerely, Jane”, which sounds a little like a 60’s hip hop _James Bond_ score, _Monáe_ discusses the need for change in Cindy’s city and empowers her to instigate such change. _Janelle Monáe_ represents an emerging new breed of original pop star, one who writes, performs, and produces their own music, without the influence of money-hungry record labels or trends. Her originality, honesty and fearlessness credit her with my respect and praise, and I eagerly anticipate the release of the following 3 movements of her intergalactic symphony. Purchase _Metropolis_ from iTunes here. Track listing: 1. The March Of The Wolfmasters 2. Violet Stars Happy Hunting!!! (Alt Link) 3. Many Moons (Alt Link) 4. Cybertronic Purgatory 5. Sincerely, Jane NB: The special Edition of this album features 2 bonus tracks called “Mr. President” and “Smile” which are completely unrelated to the concept, hence, I’m stressing here that I’m reviewing _Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase_ and not... VIKING & Don Diablo Tributes, Lushlife + Chase & Status
Sat, 27 Jun 2009 17:21:00 +0100photo:*clairity* First up today are a couple of MJ remixes. I was expecting a few of these to be honest however I was expecting them from hip-hop/RnB artists, not from electro DJs. First remix is, from what I can gather, a VIKING remix of Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone." There's loads of other names all [...]... (Read complete news)

Anyway one of the songs off his album was played on Gilles Peterson's show on Radio 1 yesterday and I had my [...]... (Read complete news)
US and Them #7
Tue, 16 Jun 2009 10:28:00 +0100_There are few issues more controversial in Canada and around the world than the annual seal hunt that takes place in the waters and on the ice floes off Atlantic Canada._ The bloody images, the heated rhetoric, the impassioned defences all combine in a familiar rite that pits governments and sealers against animal rights groups. So begins an article on CBC.ca . For years now the Canadian seal hunt has pissed off people around the world - including attention-seeking pop-star Paul McCartney and his ex-wife, the one-legged model (she said she was anti-sealing, but she didn't have a leg to stand on) - and groups from PETA (Putzes for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to Greenpeace to the European Union. Every year as seal hunters prepare for their annual cull, Canadians – known worldwide as those polite “eh” saying apologists - take a deep breath and don’t exhale until the seal hunt season is over. Why? They’re waiting for the latest global reaction that craps on Canada as a bunch of barbaric monsters. What once were exotic exports, some might say seal pelts have become the product of purloined perfidy. (Some, maybe, but I guess not many would put it in so many words.) But not so fast Dudley Do-right. If you think the seal hunt is the epitome of egregious eradication and extinction (lots of Es, eh?) then you haven’t heard about the wild-goose chase, literally, going on in New York City. It seems Mayor Bloomberg has a mad-on for mallards and has... (Read complete news)
