Idiots On Parade
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 21:24:00 +0100Yesterday was Canada Day. My entry yesterday included an upside down Canadian flag, which in universal military terms denotes distress. Given the content of the entry I was very much right to post that image, but that hasn’t stopped a slew of people from complaining about it. What is a flag? It’s a symbol, not a [...]... Africa - Toto
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 08:50:00 +0100I'm sure you have heard of this song. I know I heard this song before but I only came to know about its title when my nurse-dorm mate played it on the videoke machine and sang it. Was I glad I shared house with my nurses? Who wouldn't when we likewise share our interest in music, movies, beer, pizza and sleep? I am talking here about my friend Cha, who is now in Canada. She came from a wealthy family from Bacolod and went to Manila to find work. Her brothers were there too, but the guys were not our housemates. Anyway, she is also the type who would arrive home, turn on the aircon, play the music, wash her uniform then go to sleep. For me she is an epitome of a hard working person who never gets tired of exploring other things in life. She is also full of love and the kind of person I know who would fight for her right and even for her friends. She is likewise a symbol of strength. We seldom see each other now but last time I heard from her, her brother is now a lawyer... (which I hope I would become someday). She is still in Canada and when I thought of her, I just thought I would blog about her favorite videoke piece. I would sure want to write some more about her but I have to ask permission first. I hear the drums echoing tonight But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation She's coming in 12:30 flight The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation I stopped an old man along the way, Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancinet melodies He turned to me as if to say, Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa Gonna take some time to do the things we never had The wild dogs cry out in the night As they grow restless longing for some solitary company I know that I must do what's right As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serangetti I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa Gonna take some time to do the things we never had Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa, I passed some rains down in Africa I bless the rains down in Africa, I passed some rains down in Africa I bless the rains down in Africa Gonna take some time... Happy Canada Day
Wed, 01 Jul 2009 03:02:00 +0100Best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy Canada Day! After some searching for the ideal performance to showcase on this post, I finally decided on an excerpt of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic gold medal hockey game between Canada and the US, featuring "O Canada" sung by the rabid Canadian fans during the dying seconds of the game*: *Final score: Canada 5, USA 2. The Canadian goals were scored by Joe Sakic (2), Jarome Iginla (2), and Paul Kariya. Tony Amonte and Brian Rafalski scored for the USA. I missed the entire game, since I was in rehearsal for Modern Baroque Opera's 120 Songs for the Marquis de Sade in the Strathcona neighborhood of Vancouver's Downtown East Side. We broke for lunch minutes before the game ended, and en route to the cast's favorite neighborhood sushi takeout, we could hear people all over the neighborhood singing along with the fans on TV. From the spontaneous outpouring of song we surmised that Canada had indeed won the game. ... (Read complete news)

Megadeth Canadian Carnage Tour Updates
Tue, 30 Jun 2009 08:00:00 +0100Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick has issued new tour updates for Canadian Carnage Tour. Three shows have been completed so far, the last show will take place in Winnipeg MB, June 29, 06:40 PM. In Megadeth Official Website, Chris Broderick announced: _"We have played three of the four shows up here in Canada (Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary) and so far and the fans have been awesome. Some have been following us from show to show some even flew out from Italy to see us!!! The roster of bands has actually fit very well, I was worried that the diversity would segment the fan base to much but it seems (to me anyway) that there is something that each band brings to the table for everyone to appreciate."_ In other news, Megadeth who will release their twelfth studio album, "Endgame" this September has performed a brand new track entitled "Headcrusher" Wednesday, June 24 at the General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. "Endgame" will be Chris Broderick's first album with Megadeth. Megadeth and Slayer kicked off the "Canadian Carnage" tour in Canada by playing in front of thousands of people along with Machine Head and Suicide Silence. Check out the Headcrusher video uploaded by Youtuber, RuntRamone. The studio version of the songs also available for listening at this location. ... (Read complete news)
WWE Possibly Facing Lawsuit Over The "RAW" Brand
Mon, 29 Jun 2009 20:44:00 +0100MUSCLE FLEX ISSUED A PRESS RELEASE TODAY STATING THEY ARE POISED TO FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST WWE SEEKING DAMAGES OVER THE USE OF THE "RAW" BRAND NAME IN CANADA. Muscle Flex claims they have a trademark right to the brand "In the Raw" and claims WWE has caused confusion in the marketplace with its use of "Raw" to market products. From their press release: "Muscle Flex Inc. is in the process of exploring any and all remedies with regards to damages and past trademark infringement by the WWE in connection to their unauthorized use of 'RAW' in Canada." Muscle Flex says they "successfully defended" their trademark right to "In the Raw" in June 2008. The Canadian Intellectual Property Office ruled that certain items in WWE's trademark application were "confusingly similar and thus lacked distinctiveness" from MF's registered trademark. The file on that particular ruling is expected to close in July 2009. Looks like someone is looking to make some easy money... (Read complete news)
