No, That’s Racist
Fri, 03 Jul 2009 09:16:00 +0100I didn't watch the BET awards on Sunday night but I did watch the coverage of it on Twitter. A lot of the people I follow were pissed all night with what BET was serving up. The overall sentiment: why can't they just be better? Michael deserves better. We deserve better. There were other people on [...]... (Read complete news)

Unemployment Up to 9.5% :Hoping for Change
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 21:10:00 +0100Unemployment in June was up to 9.5%, according to a Labor Department report released today. 467,000 jobs were cut. The job loss was higher than expected. Associated Press reported the sobering news as follows. "Employers cut a larger-than-expected 467,000 jobs in June and the unemployment rate climbed to a 26-year high of 9.5 percent. Workers also saw weekly wages fall, suggesting Americans will have little appetite to spend and the economy's road to recovery will be bumpy. The Labor Department report, released Thursday, showed that even as the recession flashes signs of easing, companies likely will want to keep a lid on costs and be wary of hiring until they feel certain the economy is on solid ground." The economic crisis is, of course lasting longer than had been anticipated. The Obama administration has been throwing money hand over fist at problems that have been developing for a long time. The problem with government solutions is that they rely on either printing money or squeezing it from taxpayers. When the budgetary appropriation is gone, the job it created goes with it. Even a lousy, underpaid job stacks up pretty nicely against a government check. The best social welfare program is, in fact a job. The government can not create enough jobs to employ even a significant fraction of America's people. In order to even pay its existing payroll, it is dependent upon individual taxpayers and businesses. What the government can do is to create a climate in which investors and entrepreneurs are willing to hire and pay workers decent wages. A constructive sort of stimulus package would be extensive tax breaks for those who create new jobs. It is a lot cheaper to forgive payroll taxes in a tough stretch than it is to pay a lengthy stretch of unemployment for laid off workers. Corporations that hire American workers should get hefty tax breaks. Those who hire overseas should get no tax breaks. Anyone who lays off American workers to hire overseas should be socked with punitive taxes for increasing the burden on unemployment and various forms of public assistance. There are many companies that are hiring highly skilled workers from overseas to come to America on temporary work visas. Many such companies advertise insultingly low wages in American newspapers and ask for foreigners when they "can't find" American workers who are qualified. A 200% payroll tax on the company that "can't find American workers" in which they pay the government two dollars for every dollar that goes to an imported worker might encourage them to offer living wages to Americans who are qualified. A lot of customer assistance jobs are going overseas. Tax rates should encourage the hiring of American workers for these positions as well. It has become almost impossible to find electronic goods made in America. We have become a country that ships its raw materials abroad to be used in manufacturing. When the price of wheat or copper drops to critically low levels, it is considered a crisis to be solved. No... (Read complete news)
Comcastic Customer Service
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 17:34:00 +0100Comcast is a great company. Their success can certainly be measured in Philadelphia, as it is the Comcast building that tops the Center City skyline. Yet people still complain about their customer service. Ok So sometimes you have to wait to go through their teleprompt system until you get to the option you want, but compared to [...]... Reboot
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 16:16:00 +0100Ok folks. After a long silence I have decided to reboot the Rebellious Jukebox site. I am no longer going to provide reviewed albums for download on Rapidshare (or any other direct dowload service). Trust me, if you want it someone else has most likely already posted it somewhere (Files Tube, Rapidshare search engines, Google). If you can't find a place to download or stream something I've posted I'd be happy to share it with you, just send me an e-mail. I simply can't afford the money to keep a Rapidshare account going and I'd prefer that people visit this site for reviews and information rather than downloads. I will provide to whatever extent I can streaming music, embedded videos, and mixes. If anyone is interested in contributing or collaborating with me on this site or another project drop me a line. -T... (Read complete news)
Umineko no Naku Koro ni: 01
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 15:08:00 +0100UU~ UU~ UU~ UU~ UU~ This is my first "must watch"-listed anime for the Summer season. I haven't played the VN to be really honest, and I had only read the first 7 chapters of the manga scanlated and released so far, so I don't know what's heading next. What I know is that since this [...]... (Read complete news)
Andy Moor @ Shine - June 30th 2009
Thu, 02 Jul 2009 05:03:00 +0100Went and saw the English sensation Andy Moor (on the eve of Canada's day no less) last night at Shine. Mr. Moor gets 2 thumbs up in my book. Opened with Dakota - Johnny The Fox (Barnes & Heatcliff) which was enough to make my night. Knew how to throw it down hard in what was, to be perfectly honest, a terrible venue. #1: they closed at 2am. That is pathetic. Andy was laughing at them when they told him to get off. The club was laughing. 2am is laughable. Were my grandmother still alive, she would probably not even be in bed by 2. He was only just heating up and then they kick him off. Bollocks. The guy opening (who looked like he should have been spinning at a Flava Flav bday party) got on the mic and said they were getting Gareth Emery later in the summer, but lets be realistic. Gareth can play wherever he wants. Andy Moor is going to phone him and tell him Shine shuts down earlier than a Dunbar dance, and he's going to then reconsider coming at all, or just have a shitty expectation. Get on the phone to city hall and get a license to stay open all night, and stop serving liquor at 2. And get rid of the fucking disco balls, and the completely pointless pot lights at the front of the DJ booth. A dance club should be so dark I can't see my hand 2 inches in front of me. You can't do anything about the size of the place, and the sound system was good, but just darken it up, get rid of the chintz, and it would make it a lot better. Enough complaining. I've got Ferry Corsten on Friday to look forward to, so hopefully that will overshadow some of the shortcomings. Therefore, this calls for nothing else than fast paced, frantic dance music to keep the body moving. Enjoy. I believe this guy is an Anjuna product, so if you like Above very upbeat. Jaytech - Metro (Original Mix) Same style as "Escape". Fast, hard trance. Keep dancing! Ingsha - Niavara (Manuel Le Saux Remix) --Henry... (Read complete news)
