Killa Tactics - D&D Volume One "Killa Tactics" (1997)
Sat, 04 Jul 2009 13:08:00 +0100This is a pretty mad mix from the Belgian duo. Here's a bio on them: "When Killa Tactics was founded way back in 1996, the term 'turntablism' (first used by dj Babu of the World Famous Beat Junkies) wasn't as commonly known as it is today. So when we - Damented, Dysfunkshunal we got a hold of the X-Men's 'In X-ercise' VHS. Hundreds of times, we sat and watched Roc Raida, Rob Swift and Mista Sinista pull off one ill beat juggle after another, and we knew that this was what we wanted to do too. At first very literally, as all we did was try and copy their routines - but funnily enough, that's how everyone started out. We became totally focused on beat juggling, and quickly picked up the basics. As we progressed, we felt the unstoppable urge to showcase our skills at just about every occasion. This meant that when we played at parties, we were practically more concerned with our juggles than with the dancefloor. So the criticism grew. Looking back, it's no wonder - ever tried dancing to breakdown beat juggle patterns? But it's because we withstood the criticism and even fed off of it that we kept practicing and becoming better. We began doing showcases here and there, with changing success. Some people were impressed with seeing three guys freakily messing with records, others were headed for the door. But then, in 1998, we found our niche - the Belgian Zulu Nation chapter organized a national dj battle. All three of us entered, and we did quite well, considering we were young rookies going up against 'veteran' dj's like Grazzhoppa, The Transformers, and Lamont. That's when we caught the battle fever - we participated in the Belgian DMC Championships, and placed 3th, 5th and 7th. We went to Paris for the DMC Coupe de France to compete in the beat juggling category, where Dysfunkshunal took the title, beating Damented in a fierce final. So the first victory was in, and the fever became worse. In between battles, we kept ourselves busy doing parties, hosting our weekly show on local radio Scorpio, doing liveshows with the mc's from our crew, Riot Squad, and releasing a slew of mixtapes. Our name began spreading, and we participated in every battle we could participate in. We went on to win a few titles here and there (check our battle stats to see what, where and when), and we got to travel around the world to represent Belgium and Europe in both the DMC and ITF battles. Turntablism took us to cities like London, Los Angeles, Copenhagen, San Francisco, Munich and Amsterdam. We met like minded people from all over the globe, and always came back hungry for more. We never won any world titles, but we were close twice - two time vice world champs in the ITF Team category, that's not too bad. But we also had success in the individual categories, as we all have multiple national titles on our... (Read complete news)

Roskilde Festival 2009
Mon, 15 Jun 2009 16:41:00 +0100One year ago I said I wouldn't participate in the wild and wonderful Roskilde Festival. Two days before I changed my mind and saw memorable performances by MGMT, Battles, Girl Talk and Shantel, while Yeasayers and others have gone into oblivion. Again this year I am not going. But if I were, there would be [...]... (Read complete news)
ITF DJ World Championships 2003 DVD
Sat, 06 Jun 2009 09:38:00 +0100Since I've posted so many DMC DJ World Championships, I thought I'd post the ITF competitions videos as well. A lot of heads believe that the ITF Championships are better than the DMC Championships, some saying that the DMC's are even rigged, I'm not going to jump on any sides or get into politics but I enjoy both of them and regardless of what's going on, you get to see the DJ's showcase their talents and at the end of the day, that's all I really care about. Cheers to http://www.freestylemadness.com/ for the linkage. Here's the write up and info on it: "The... (Read complete news)
Cynthia Valenzuela on Metallic Harp
Sat, 06 Jun 2009 06:28:00 +0100Live performance at Encuentro de Arpa de Durango 2005 "Diva's Harp". And yes, the actual harp itself is made of metal, not just the strings. Certainly makes for a unique sound! Too bad it gets cut off at the end. You can see another short video of Cynthia demonstrating the "Vera" metallic harp below.... (Read complete news)

Robots with Life??? Is This Possible???
Sun, 03 May 2009 03:57:00 +0100Speaking of robots, if the first blog talks about robots that are being controlled by machine, there is one anime that was aired in ABS-CBN that showcased robots that has blood runnng in their system. I'm referring to the anime B'TX. B'Ts are artificial intelligence robotics designed for fighting. B stands for Brain, Blood, Bravery and Battler. Their source of power is the Breakheart, which is given to life if a person's blood is put into it. Once this happens, the person is now in contact with that particular B'T. In the series, there are four guardians mention which symbolizes the four... (Read complete news)

You can blame it on the fast pace of modern technology or the historical events that took place on Januay 20th or, heck, the fact that my calendar is already jam-packed through August thanks to the simultaneous return of Phish, The Dead and the Allman Brothers Band. But before we close books... (Read complete news)
