The band lives on in music......
Tue, 30 Jun 2009 07:38:00 +0100"You know what sucks? Bands that are great live but can’t capture that same energy and feeling on record. Dixie Witch and Orange Goblin fall into that category. And now here come King Valley with _Greatest Hits Volume 8_. The seven songs on the disc (eight if you count the almost inaudible nonsense eight minutes into "Astro Train") offer a solid take on what can only be described as American Hard Rock, distilled from muscle cars and Kyuss. It’s good stuff, catchy without being cloying, and rocks consistently from start to finish, but I can’t shake the feeling that live King Valley are an entirely different band. I think what it comes down to is that on _Greatest Hits Volume 8_, there’s too much emphasis to make it sound professional, and as a result, the songs become too polished. On tracks like the excellent "Drawing Flies," it’s not that big of a deal. It’s a fairly layered number that shows off the band’s skills (including the impressive pipes of lead singer TC). But on "Squink," the drums sound painfully separate from the rest of the music, and the production makes the punkish "Detect the Reject" sound too mannered for its own good. It’s a shame, because both songs are good. On "Astro Train," the band manages to let a little more grit come through, and it's there that you can hear what they really have to offer. Overall, it’s not bad, and I wouldn’t have a problem recommending _Greatest Hits Volume 8_ if you were a fan of Devil to Pay, Unida, or hard rock in general. I just hope that their next release sounds a little uglier. Movie On
Thu, 14 May 2009 07:58:00 +0100Get it, moving on?..............I did some cinema research for what's coming out this year. I'm not a movie fanboy, so I don't really care. Thus far, the only interesting flicks I see out or coming out: Star Trak(surprisingly), Transformers 2 and Terminator 4. Later this year, you can expect some odd ones to hit the screen. You already know we're in for yet another Saw. Saw VI, if you say it fast, doesn't it sound like "sausage"? 2009 seems to be the year to exploit anime and video games, i.e: Dragon Ball and Street Fighter, both of which I still... Luis Miguel fills Valencia with his voice / Luis Miguel llenó a Valencia con su voz
Mon, 21 May 2007 07:14:00 +0100Luis Miguel is one of the most prominent latin singers to date. He has had a 25 years old career. I saw him live in concert two days ago. Here are the pictures and the critic I did in spanish for El universal, the most important newspaper in my country. (Read complete news)
