It was a number 1 dance single in the US in 1994 and reached number 1 for singles in the UK in 1995 having sold over 130,000 copies in a single week to displace Oasis from the top of the chart. The 1994 MCA maxi-single release of Dreamer included the Original Club Mix produced by the Italian team Venturi DJ and Viani DJ. It also included Junior Vasquez's Sound Factory Mix and his Factory Dub, so-named for the New York City club where Vasquez DJd at the time. Dreamer is considered one of the greatest dance anthems of the post-disco era, and it is still played by club DJs around the world. I just thought it's blog-worthy because it also reminds me of a dear friend, a close one. She is likewise a "piscean" and when we had a program at school which required us to use a codename, I recommended she use this one because from my reading of a mug given to me, it said that a person born under the zodiac sign of Pisces is a dreamer. I also told her about this song, sung by one of my favorite singers. Sol (her name) and I shared a lot in common. We took Philosophy and Political Science as our major courses back in UP. We went home to the same dorm and there was one time we shared the same boarding house. We joined the same campus organization and helped put up one (an organization called POLIS). Incidentally, together we also doubted our faith, our religion and our God (that was before). We always go out together sometimes people would interchange our faces, our teachers confuse our names. At present, we conitnued our passion for the laws and religion. In the near future, we hope to be called Lawyers. So this song in particular, although when I hear a Kenny Rogers song, somehow I remember Sol. Thu, 04 Jun 2009 06:40:00 +0100En 1974, en vísperas de la música disco, Supertramp grabó el primero de sus dos discos más famosos, _Crime of the Century_ (el otro es _Breakfast in America_, de 1979), una obra de impresionante riqueza creativa que incluye una de las canciones más originales que he podido escuchar, _Dreamer_. El tema se cruzó en mi camino una noche de 1981, si no recuerdo mal, viendo mi programa de TV favorito de entonces, _La música que sacudió el mundo_, una estimulante revista de rock audiovisual que conducía Alfredo Escalante en Venezuela y que inspiró a muchos músicos de mi generación. Lo que más me impresiona es que recuerdo vívidamente el exacto momento en que escuché los primeros acordes de _Dreamer_ y vi a Roger Hodgson destacándose entre la penumbra de un escenario en París justo antes de soltar su peculiar voz. Se me grabó esa imagen para siempre, quizás por la grata sorpresa que me causó algo tan fresco, gracioso, inquietante y estimulante. Nunca había escuchado a alguien tocar así un piano, en una banda de rock que ¡no estaba usando guitarras eléctricas!; nunca había escuchado a alguien cantar con una voz tan fea y a la vez tan cautivante (la de Hodgson era uno de los varios atractivos de Supertramp); y el movimiento de un arreglo musical sencillo, juguetón y de detalles inesperados simplemente me agarró.
